Telehandler with trailer

Hi all, any info on this be greatly recieved.

Can you tow a trailer something like 6-8 ton farm trailer behind a telehandler on the road.

See quite a few with large bale trailers behind, as you say legal ??

From memory the manual on our 530 says 1 tonne towing limit. I believe the issue is the brakes.

should be i think my telli can tow 18tons on the road and as its an ag registered vehicle this should be in the same class as a tractor?

None of the handlers I have used have a trailer brake. Therefore no road work.

Unless it has changed. Telehandlers are registered as mobile crane or plant, so by law can only carry equipment used to do its job. e.g. pallet forks, bucket etc. Its the same as a tractor excavator towing.

 

However it happens often with a dolly and artic trailer. Can be expensive to repair transmissions ruined this way.

The Manitou 840 has a two ton hitch with 10 towing capacity. I dont know about the legalities for road use.

i have checked the registration document and it is classed as an agricultural machine.

 

it also has trailer brakes and impressive on board brakes.

 

but i wouldnt recommend regular heavy trailer work although everyone dose it
