Looking into buying my first climbing kit and I am debating either a lockjack, spiderjack or a zigzag.

Which do people prefer? Main reason I am contemplating it is that I haven't got the greatest back, I would like to preserve it for as long as I can

I've heard from various people now that it helps put less strain on the back.

I've used a Zigzag and found it easy to use and simple, had a brief go on the lockjack as well but didn't find it as smooth as the Petzl!

Opinions please

Spiderjack is good but not a good starting point as can quite easily scare the poop out of you if your just gaining experience up a tree especially on delicate limb walks.

Sorry missed the first climbing kit bit a sj may notbe best, mind you a bit of deadwood sliding down between your ropes can be interesting with a zig zag.:001_smile:

Not half as interesting as sneezing and hitting it with your visor can be, probably one dropped 2" but felt like 2m when already disorientated by the sneeze

Hahah I'll try make sure that doesn't happen! Must say the ZigZag was really easy to use and looked easy to set up. Just want to buy once and buy right so I don't have to think about anything else for a few years.

zig zag smoother than a lockjack but might break,

lockjack not as smooth as zigzag but wont break.

i use a lockjack, it does get smoother as you get used to it,

not tried a spiderj tho.

try and blag a go on different systems to have a work climb on.
