orangey colour on grass

been to two sites today to cut grass and there is this orange colour on grass like rust comes off on hand and mower is covered in it. any idears what it is. i asume its some type of fungus or rust.will it harm grass

Yes it's a fungi known as rust. common on fresh seeded lawns and sandy soil

Or is it actually rust? If they use lawn sand say, 7-0-0 3Fe. Then the iron in the lawn sand will literally rust if it has got wet. Did you notice any black moss?

It's rust and there is a lot of it around this year, it will recover.

Our back field of rough natural years old grasses an rushs is stonking full o it.

I noticed cos I was towing a tarp round to clean it, the nice clean Sitka pole I was using for a spreader bar turned orange, as did the blue rope.
