Allowing customers to pick up firewood

Hey Sam- Well....... Erm, i let you collect from

My yard.. Haha, but that is different.

No- in your case. If they are that desperate- meet them in one of the FC carparks down the road, but they will all want a discount- once they know where you are, what prevents them coming when you are out and having a freebee. Sounds appealing - but unless you know them very well- slippery road to trouble.

I took a chance that a young lad, who is a continuous contributor to arbtalk and wants to work- deserves a chance- and i guess as a result- you are my 'customer' - but its more like trade, and 'mates rates' if not just a good productive mutually respective working relationship that we have now - i certainly wouldnt let numpty joe public in my yard!!

And what a numpty I turned out to be :001_tt2:

Im going over tomorrow actually and Ill take some photos, I think you will be happy with the progress

As a "customer" i sort of understand some of the responses but if i didn't know you i'd be also wary of buying from you first time up if you refused to let me visit the yard to see your product.

I've always popped in to the site of the guy i buy logs from when i want to place a new order.

I don't "collect" but i prefer to do the order in person as the yard is on the route of a journey i travel semi regularly anyway so it makes sense to me.

I also tend to "pick up" kindling if i need any as and when.

I understand the worries with regards to insurance and especially people on the "rob" but some of us are just decent people who like to do things in person, old school.

I also learned a lot more about what's involved and now have a greater appreciation of the costs involved as he took the time to show me how it all works.

Its annoying because if more people wanted to pick up it would make my life so much easier. But all though the majority of people I would have no problem with picking up some it would only take one person to mess everything up and all of the sudden I will have lost a lot.

I give 10% discount if they collect never had anyone try for more, they stay at the front of yard and ill bring a bag to them. its 1/4 mile from locked gate to the logs so not many get nicked but some do. had 1 guy think he was sneaky drove in 8am sunday morning with a trailer but gate was locked and then he spotted me standing watching him havnt seen him since.

First year this year and it's going well they park at entrance and I bring it to them extra 250 on PL . All appropriate warning signs was the only condition.

All you guys saying don't want people scoping out your yards do you really think there going to come under the guise of a firewood customer. It all be at 330am when it's raining and blowing, then come back to get the loot. If your doing firewood Arb landscaping the bad guys no where you are.
