Thought i would have a crack at some footlocking just wearing my normal hiax work boots but found sometimes get some slipping on the arch of my foot wear the heel raises. I doubt i will be entering any comps just yet will just paractice and get the jist of it. So finally my question is for anyone entering do you guys prefer boots, chainsaw boots, trainers etc or is it just whatever you practice in you get used too?

I just got some Merrell approach climbing / wlking trainers, with vibram soles and same sticky rubber stuff as climbing "stickies" up the side and around the toe. Work very well on footlock, but alas , they dont have ankle protection so i'm saving the pennies for some Scarpa.

A good pair of walking/hiking boots. Practice with them and ware jeans not chainsaw trousers. Once you get used to getting a lock with your feet the type of boots dont really make a difference you'll be able to transfer the technique to be able to footlock in anything. The main trick with footlocking is not to look at your feet whilst trying to take a lock as you'll end up swinging the rope which makes taking the next lock more difficult.
