Racing Pigeons

I have just started to keep racing pigeons this year and wondered if anyone else does.

I love watching the 'Doos' fly about in formation. Never owned,have no advice :blushing:but look forward to seeing some pictures!

I'm a bit behind as young bird racing started about 3 weeks ago so might just get these trained up and start them as yearlings next year.

 

I have just let them go for there first training toss from 2 miles and they are all back!

 

I have some pics on my computer but I'll start to take them if you want to look.

 

Steve next year if you want to keep four or so in a hutch to play with, with your boys I'll send you some babies up.

No advice I'm afraid but my grandfather kept racing pigeons and I have such fond memories of watching him call them in with. He was a crack shot with the catapult and dried peas on the factories cat that used to stalk the birds to.

 

I also remember vividly the birds rush out of their boxes when we used to release them from the top of Bury Hill in West Sussex for their flight back to Wood Green in north London; thanks for the trip down memory lane.

The guy who works for me races them and does quite well with them. Are you a member of a forum called pigeon basics as it's ment to be full of usefull info and helpfull people much the same as here

I'm the youngest in the club by about 40 years! Not many younger people doing it.

There's a load of pigeons (about 30 of them) on our roof first thing in the morning, b;**dy annoying things When I was a lad 50 years ago my uncle and his friends all used to keep pigeons on the allotment and I used to take his out on the back of my scooter and let them go, they always used to beat me back home.

dont let them go anywhere near thirsk. veritable bermuda triangle for pigeons.
