Driving a chassis cab on the road?

Quick question,

 

I will need to drive tubless 110 a short ish distance of about 20 miles. Its just chassis cab currently, or will be after the weekend.

 

Am i right in thinking that if i make up some mudguards to contain the rear wheels and stick a number plate board on the rear im ok as far as plod go?

 

Will be a stretch of A roads hence me asking

I drove a chassis cab merc lorry from Nottingham to Harwich, crossed to NL on the ferry, then across the Netherlands to Germany.

 

Saw quite a few police, had customs check at both ends and all was fine.

 

Don't know if its technically legal though...

So long as you have number plate and lights then surely it's not much different to an HGV driving without a trailer.

Lights, number plate, mudguards, and no sharp edges or obtrusions from body work.

Was just the wheels being uncovered that i was concerned about. will have a clean licence in a few months for the first time in 10 years and knowing my luck id get pulled for something silly

About the mud guards/ wings, If its going to have bodywork built on the chassis, in the c&u regs, there is an exception for - unfinished vehicles or trailers proceeding for completion.

I drove my 130 about for ages as a chassis cab, even got the mot like it.

Just needed mudguards lights and number plate
