I'm sorry but it shouldn't crack at all...

if this was the first reported problem then fair enough, but it isn't.

we trust out lives in this gear....

reminds me of a thread about a petzl sequoia harness where the buckle broke.... as if our job isn't hard enough or dangerous enough with out having to treble check our gear every 30 seconds, even though we should every time we climb.... we (well I) want complete faith in my gear.... im sure we all do.

it's not acceptable in my book.... don't really instil confidence dose it?

I've got zig zag and a spider jack as backup think both are great made things so much easier. Use mine everyday great for limb walks had it for months I'm never going back to prussic, it's made my job enjoyable and easier on the body

Spider jack is a good bit of kit just gota put in the time it needs for you to get use to it. I'm getting quite use to it now and there's the odd day I'm quicker on the sj than the zz. But I don't think the zz can be beat for long limb walks it's just easier, limb walking the zz is king that's my opinion and there's nothing anyone could say that would change it

Can you tend slack one handed with the zz?

And is the SJ the same in that respect?

The guy I buy my kit off advised me against the SJ due to its "free fall" characteristics. Bit scary in a work environment.

He then advised me to get a ZZ.

Currently on a HC with an eye tie hitch.

The ZZ is better for one handed tending due to the pulley, IMO, its also much more controllable on decent, although the SJ is pretty controllable with practice.

That is why I like the zz it can be tended one handed, as can the sj but it's a lot easier with the zz and you get that problem of clutch not engaging straight away you pull the slack on the zz it's done. The break on the sj does take getting used to. The zz you can pick it up straight away it works exactly like a prussic

With the S.J You only free-fall when you descend on it without applying the wooden brake at the same time.....The ZZ self-tends.... perfect on limb walks....add the fact that it has little or no sit-back and with practice allows for smooth movement and working position.
