Yeah, I heard that it's 'designed for aerial works only' Probably because it's only been tested at height since it was/is a rock climbing helmet.

 

I'm sure it'd stand up fine on the ground too.

 

it has a breaking strength greater than 50 daN (EN 12 492 mountaineering helmet standard). Polycarbonate shell, resistant to impact and wear (meets EN 397 industrial helmet standard and EN 12492 standard). Ventilation holes that can be closed with sliding shutters (for cold and/or windy conditions). Meets optional requirements of the EN 397 standard: lateral deformation, use at low temperatures (down to - 30 °C). Does not meet optional requirements of the EN 397 standard regarding: electrical insulation or molten metal splash (due to the ventilation holes).

 

All seems to be in order, unless you tend to work around molten metal...

isn't it that our climbing helmets shouldn't be used on the ground as they dont have a peak on them? for kick back reasons? just what i heard, not sure if true...

in the quote in ben's reply it says that it meets En397 (industrial safety helmet) so it is fine for use on the ground as that is what the old husky 'arborist' helmet complied with.

I had a Kask, went back to my tried and true vertex vent, much nicer to wear in the heat, the kask was an oven.

 

also, heard that the kask is NOT rated for side impact.

 

Overall, IMO, the Petzl is a much better helmet for real climbing.

There are 2 versions of the Kask/Stein helmet one has side impact (TC climbing) the other doesn't (ground helmet)

Just got me a stein kask, to replace my vertex vent. Ok i got the luvverly goggles, mainly for when i am milling, but the helmet pisses all over the vertex for weight and especially comfort. My only complaint is sweat dripping on the visor.

 

 

how many helmets you need tom? you just can't resist a shiny new helmet can you??
