When i started at the Gym the guy there recommended shakes 3 times a day. I looked at the price and thought 'screw that'. I did a bit of reading into it anf found this page at the English Institute for Sport much cheaper.

I can't say i notice much difference however, i'm sure its more my ad hoc gym sessions

3 shakes a day at 30 grams + = around 100 grams of protien + your daily intake of food you will be around 180 grams per day - far too much protien..almost anabolic state. you risk iof colna cancer will go up and the protien you body does not use will tuen into fat. ( makes you big but NOT STRONG ).

Protien is not a good source of energy..you need complex carbs for that.

i only take protein after a heavy training session ( pre comps) as it stops my body feeling so sore the next morning, never felt or noticed any side effects

Are you working so hard during the day that your body is breaking down??

eat a couple of tins of sardines or tuna that will give you plenty protein but as above posts says its complex carbs you need for sustained slow release energy

I agree with both cleanhands & 88man, I may be a newbie to the Arb way of life but I have done endurance.

I'm not into weights (gym) but like they both say a balanced diet is what you need, plenty of slow release with a hint of zing just to get you motivated, mixing food stuff for their release properties.

snickers chocolate zing- peanuts fats, oils etc slow release.

Just as a back up have either a protein shake, complan or a bit of what you fancy (as long as it's legal) variety is the spice of life.. if taking proteinyou need more water, dehydration makes your head hurt and bad tempered

Youre body needs one gram of protein per pound of body weight per day........200lb body weight = 200grammes of protein. All this will be obtained with regular meals. I fell into the supplement trap for a while and now know what crap it is, expensive crap at that. Too much protein will ruin youre kidneys. I weight train 3 or 4 times a week, I have not taken supplements for years and notice no lack of strength.
