Any experience of the 536Li?

Chaps,

95% of my saw work is crosscutting for firewood - using a 576XP and 550XP, mostly the 550. I'm intrigued by the 536Li, particularly given I need to re-equip on hedgetrimmer, strimmer and brushcutter, and there are battery equivalents that use the same batteries, making the 536Li a very inexpensive proposition.

Bearing in mind the amount of Aspen I now go through, the idea of electric without a cord to cut through or trip over is very attractive. I could see it being the main saw, backed up by the two petrol units, if it proved up to the job.

Have any of you out there got much experience of this saw? I'd be most interested to hear of your experiences and views.

Thanks in advance!

It would be interesting to work out the cost of wear and tear on the batteries since they only last a certain amount of cycles. I wonder how that compares with fuel costs ? I wonder also how many hours the motors are designed to last. ? I saw a demo today of a Stihl lithium saw cross cutting and it was a lot slower than my mains powered Stihll 220.

Thanks, Logit. And from the lack of other responses, I guess they're not in general use yet, then!

I did notice that Husky are doing battery backpacks now - to give hours of use on one charge. An interesting option, provided the saw can be attached and detached quickly.

If you're currently using a 550 and 576 for your logging then a 536 will not be a suitable replacement.

I've been running the top handle version for over a year now.

It's an awesome saw in the tree, but battery life does suffer when you start dismantling at bar length.

Your charge/recharge cycle would be through the roof for heavy or constant cross-cutting.

Cost wise I was £674 for 2 batteries, saw and charger.

Bought another battery when one came loose and broke. Husky then gave me a replacement too, so that was another £110 plus vat, but I now have 3 batteries.

The charger is now playing up I think and I can't charge any of the batteries either last night or tonight, even though 2 are only 3 months old.

That's put me off!

Don't get me wrong though. Once I've sorted the charging issue it will be straight back into use. It is always the first saw into the tree in the morning. We reduced a big lime to a stick with just 1 1/2 batteries the other day.

Went to petrol only for the chog down.

Oh, I'm interested again!
