Grazon on new seeded lawn

Strim the taller weed off and allow sward to thicken. Apply selective when grass has established a bit more. Remember weeds which come up after cultivation and seeding wont sustain with ongoing mowing. The usual lawn weeds either stand up well to constant cutting or have a very low prostrate growth habit eg clover buttercup daisy self heal etc etc. Docks and nettles will disappear over time if you mow regularly, especially if helped along with a dot spray of selective.. maybe ticlopyr i.e. garlon / timbrel

only if doing for a client pa1 and 6 required. and grazon was withdrawn unless some have it in stock. do not know what the new ones are. need the full works for grazon boots ppe gloves mask and visor got a job to do with it not looking forward to it. maybe thats why they withdrew it. but it does the job

have to say for total gone to cda so easy to use only boots and gloves so easy and cheap to use and does the ctrick. stuff knapsacks. pity they do not do selective for them make job so easy.

Its still available as Grazon Pro its only licenced for spot spraying with knapsack now at 60ml in 10 litres, as far as I remember Pastor is a safe selective to use on new swards and is also safer for the operator :thumbup1:

I have never used Grazon so cannot comment on when and when not to use it. Have a look at the data sheet as this will give recommendations when to use post seeding.

Some selective weed killers can be used as early as the second leaf growth post germination. (We have never hit a lawn this early in its developing stage).

Seasonally now is not the ideal or most effective time to apply a selective weed killer as both the grass and weeds slow down growth during the summer months due to excessive heat and low rain falls.

Recommendation

Explain to the clients that any cultivation will always raise weeds seeds to the surface ready for them to germinate and any freshly seeded area shall always have an amount of weeds. Weed seeds can last for a good five years prior to germinatin.

New lawn preparation.

As previously mentioned hit the area with roundup, leave for approx two weeks and then rotorvate and ideally leave for a further two-four weeks for the ground to settle and weeds to germinate. Hit it it once more with round up at the lowest dosage rating, leave for 7-14 days and then seed.

Post germination

Wait until the grass is a little more mature and keep feeding, a little and often approx (maybe half doses of fertiliser as freshly germinated grass cultivars do benifit from an extra feed during development.

Early Autmen

In September / October hit the area with POLAX.

POLAX

Spring

Spring time next year apply a very gentle BioStimulate and as the weather warms apply a granular feed. Mid spring hit again with a selective and I can gurantee your clients shall be amazed!

Any more questions please do not hesitate to get in touch.

Regards

Gregory
