getting into climbing

I'm not sure if i have put this in the right place looking to do a course this but want the equipment in advance to practice with also one less expense

 

so could someone give me a list of things i will need the basic's harness etc?

The very basics you need to climb Double locking carabiners x 2 a climbing line 13mm dia I use a braided 16 strand. Good comfy harness two 9mm loops to make your prusik and a second rope with a sown eye in one end about 5 mtrs long to use as your lanyard.

And a fig of 8 to descend safely on. The best thing to do is find some one who climbs trees. Get them to show you the knots and various techniques for entering a tree and safely ascending it. People use lots of different rigs but the above is very simple. One last thing This kit will cost about £400 don't be tempted to buy second hand rope you just don't know what its been used for.

The absolute bare minimum would be 1 harness, 1 rope, 2 Prussik loops and 2 Carabiners.

Nonsense. Absolute bare minimum would be one rope, one harness. Using single rope system and bowline direct to harness.

Just a rope would get you started if you're going that far
