I've got a job coming up in a back garden where the slope down into the garden is about 1 in 3, and about 20m long.

 

I need something that will grab the branches and wood from the monstrous conifer at the bottom of the garden, and run it up to the top.

 

I can get something bigger than an Avant in there, but not sure whether to go 4x4 wheels or tracks, especially if it starts to rain?

 

Any advice appreciated.

Take a tracked chipper down and the biggest dumper you can fit in.

Chip into the dumper, drive up and tip into your truck. One lad in the truck shovels the chips forwards.

Keep it all as simple as possible.

The ground is a soil slope, although the surface is getting quite hard now it has dried up, so a chunky grip like tractor tread would be better than turf tyres.

 

I'm going to see if the hire company has something like an avant but bigger.

last time I had an Avant on a slope, it wouldn't get back up with a load on.

 

When I first see an avant I thought it looked ok but expensive. Then I was on a job near winchester and see it bring great big butts of pop across a very boggy field then up a muddy 1 in 3 slope with out any problems or slipping, the butts must have been a good 700kg each. May be worth seeing if you had the biggest one they do last time and were the tyres top notch.

If its only 20m casual labour and some man up pills. I'd do as mendip logs says winch it up. For 20m a loader may over complicate thr job. Weve just done a similar job, climber & 2 groundies. We pre stacked the brash and logs near the tree then formed a chain once thr climber (me) was down. It was a grind but not the worst we've done. Cost me a few ice creams though
