An online Id key suggested robinia, but that doesn't look right. Think pyracanthus looks most likely. Will check when flowers / berries come out. Goaty, there's a pic in the first post... Tried to paste the link in again, but phone says no!

Leaves are wrong . Would be parallel opposites on a longish stem . Lighter shade of green . Thorns are similar though .

In my opinion, Pyracantha all the way.

 

Cockspur thorn leaves tend to be a little more serrated than those in the photo, plus the bark is very Pyracantha-esk.
