Alright guys, looking for the best way to put down some astroturf, approx 4m x 5m

some say just wack down MOT type 1 hardcore, others say nail together a frame out of 2x4 lengths, lay on area and fill with hardcore, wack down to level of frame.

Its only for a customers dog, so low quality astro turf is fine, already purchased.

anyone done something similar? I know there are youtube videos but Im after tried and tested methods from you guys here

thanks in advance

Best to put it down using a nice big very hot blow lamp

What would you expect from a turf grower :)

Would sand not move about underneath though as is has no roots to stabilise it ?

I thought hoggin was used underneath

Specification:

50mm of wash graded gravel or Type 1 if you prefer, (wash graded is easier to work with and more free draining but Type 1 is fine).

Preferably use 4-2mm limestone grit as a bedding layer, laid 15 - 25mm deep. 6 - 2mm is also OK. Both will give a very free draining bedding layer and works far better than sharp sand as it's anything but free draining and liable to deform under foot, (in my opinion).

A layer of Terram 1000.

Depending on usage you can either pin the perimeter with 150mm nails or screw it down to a treated timber batten or 50 x 50mm timber or for the most secure fixing, glue it down to a 100mm wide concrete strip, laid 25mm below the finished surface. You might use a mixture on a single job - gluing an entrance for instance and nailing non-walked on perimeters against fencing, etc.

Timber frame is the way to do it, level it off and fill with hardcore then compact with wacker plate leaving half inch on top of the hardcore screed over the top with river sand using the timber frame to level, lay the grass and screw down to timber frame and finally brush in some kiln dried sand to lift the pile and to weigh down in the middle.

Job done!
