Hi,

I have an older model 281xp in which cuts out after around 10mins of use, I don't have time or knowledge to do the work myself.

Is there anyone around leicestershire/east midlands who may be able to sort it?

The few places i've tried have a long lead time.

Thanks

There's several other things wrong with this saw, e.g. smoke coming from the clutch area after some use, also the chain spinning rapidly on idle. Would I be right in assuming the clutch may need replacing also?

When applying the chain brake the saw seems stressed and revs higher, hopefully this may be enough info to investigate the cause.

Thankyou for the replies

It's one of 2 things. The 281/288xp was a great saw. It had 2 coils though. an ignition coil and an electronic coil. It was almost NEVER the ignition coil ( the one next to the carb). It was always the electronic coil (next to flywheel). Apart from that, the red wire going from the elec coil to the ign coil has a poor connection, it jumps causing a misfire and lack of power, a wee crimp and bingo!!
