  1. Oiler is around £20.00. You have been had mate :-(
  2. It's one of 2 things. The 281/288xp was a great saw. It had 2 coils though. an ignition coil and an electronic coil. It was almost NEVER the ignition coil ( the one next to the carb). It was always the electronic coil (next to flywheel). Apart from that, the red wire going from the elec coil to the ign coil has a poor connection, it jumps causing a misfire and lack of power, a wee crimp and bingo!!
  3. "HI SDS 461 IS A better saw then any 441 ones thanks jon " Hi mate, the 441 is so soft, the av plug on the underside is horrible as the case breaks and the engine floats about.
  4. Hi mate, not had time to read the last 40 pages!!, but if has not already been suggested ,why not invest in an MS 362, 15,16,18,20" bar. More powerful than the 241 but lighter than the 441. Also if you want to spend 441 money buy the 461. Better power and about £30.00 in it!!
  5. "Stihl doesn't make any semi-pro saws, and haven't since the MS341" No, this was considered to be a pro saw and ran alongside the MS361 for a time. It was dropped because the machines were to close to one another . The MS271,291 and 391 are all semi pro saws for Farms, Estates and Landscapers. The latter as I say is very popular.
  6. "SDS, you have made a few enemies, but it may not be too late to make amends if you stop being a pratt." I was not being a pratt GardenKit. It was a joke. See above post by Woodman.
  7. "Anyone thought of ringing the five (?) Scottish Stihl dealers to ask about a warranty repair? SDS is probably the one who treats you like a nuisance rather than a valued potential customer" Seems there are only 5 dealers in England too!! ;-)
  8. "Massive troll here, time for the ban button methinks" Oh behave, as a loyal dealer I follow the rules set down by my supplier. And yet you would rather support dealers who break the rules?. I am an honest guy and that's why I run a successful dealership. I sleep easy at night. This is my final word on this subject. I will however still help (for those who want it) on technical issues.
  9. No need for rudeness, it's a very popular saw for us, we sell loads of them, mostly with the 20" bar.
  10. You may be able to buy a powerhead from those dealers who flout the rules. Think I might need to get on the phone again and find out who does....
  11. Can I draw your attention to the heading of this thread?. "Semi pro saw choice". What I suggested is a semi pro saw. You seem to have suggested 2 pro saws. Are you finding this a bit difficult?
  12. Forget all the Echo and Dolmar/Makita rubbish. Spares are hard to come by and expensive being jap. A Stihl MS391 20" is a lovely saw. Good power to weight ratio, 2 years warranty!!
  13. All Husky, Stihl an Oregon oil is 50:1. Why are you farting about with 40:1 and 45 :1?
  14. Again, lots of interesting comments. I don't really have any more to add, other than I just wanted to let you see the other side of the story from a dealer point of view. I hope you all continue to run a profitable and successful business and as I have said before if I can help you with advice on technical problems I will do my best. Cheers.
  15. "I think writing on wall for Stihl and Husky ........longterm" Erm, no.
  16. " but let's say I'd been contracted to work around the area your dealership is in and one of my saws were down, would you stick it at the very back of the queue because I hadn't purchased it from you initially? If so, that's pretty poor and will give you a poor rep." No mate, this happens all the time. We have had a few contractors from Glasgow and the south west in the area for weeks. I have replaced clutches and ignition modules ect the same day for them(on 2 occasions while they wait)(It's also on the shelf). I am talking about customers who come to me for a price, go elsewhere, then expect a turn around warranty service.
  17. Hello, this was ultra common on the 200t. Although you changed the diaphragms a couple of years ago, regardless of use you should do it again. Change the Fuel filter and the strainer in the carb too. It's not often you have to replace the carb but it does happen, lastly, the LS speed setting is always 1 turn out. The HS is 3/4 and is set fully. If an old type 2 jet carb then basic setting would be 1 turn each.
  18. "provide a rapid and efficient repair service - absolutely not (see earlier comments about warranty repairs going to the back of the queue, an attitude which I find disgraceful in a customer facing business btw).". Don't twist my words buddy. This applies to warranty repairs when the product is NOT purchased from ourselves. Again, as I did earlier lets put it in to context you can understand. A customer asks you to quote for a job. You are "too expensive" They then ask someone else, that person in question makes a total horses arse of the job. You are then asked to go and clear the mess up but you are busy with regular customers you have mad a commitment to. They are less important right?. They go to the back of the queue.
  19. Hi aquatoo. Any Stihl or Husky agent should be able to get you one. I use one I got through Husky years ago, does a good job.
  20. "My local experience of dealers has not been good - I took a friends MS261 to the local Stihl dealer, and it took them two months to replace the needle bearings in it. This included a 4 week Christmas holiday that they decided to take without telling me. The other dealer, which is a little better, is a 30 minute drive away (at best - traffic could easily make that 50min). " Again this is outrageous. Why would it take him 2 months?. Can you tell me why Big J?
  21. "I wouldn't have such a problem with this bloody policy if my local Stihl dealer was any cop, but they aren't . . ..I once tried ordering some full chisel chain and was told that the only type of chain available was semi chisel (although he didn't even know what that was called)." This is totally unacceptable. This is the most basic of stuff. You need to know your Rapid Super from your Rapid Micro, or your BPX from your LPX
  22. "My time is so precious". So is mine mate, and that's why I ain't doing your warranty at the drop of a hat!!
  23. "Can't understand the warranty issues , go to back of queue, not doing it as you didn't buy it with me.... Money is money at the end of the day." Well for a start Stihl only pay you the time it takes to fit the part. They do not take in to consideration fault finding, cleaning or stripping the machine in the first place. Also the labour rate paid is usually below that of the dealers labour rate.
  24. Why did it take that long? Jonathan?. Was there a back order problem from Stihl or do you have an inadequate dealer?. In both cases I would report it to Stihl. It will be taken seriously!
