  1. "you are obviously a very poor businessman" No, I'm a bloody good one. There is an online policy in place to protect me and my profit margin and I use it to my full advantage. I am grateful for every customer whether they spend £1.00 or £100.00, but I will not treat users kindly.
  2. Fair enough Tom D. As long as you realise that your warranty claim goes to the very back of the queue. You look after those that look after you.
  3. Thank you GardenKit. People want to have their cake and eat it. You want to buy cheap online then when something goes wrong you want to take it to your local dealer and have it repaired quick smart. If we don't have the part in stock you are unhappy at having to wait. It may surprise you to know but I have invested a lot of time, effort and money over the years to run a successful dealership and I am not about to let it be flushed down the toilet by some online company hell bent on getting "the sale" at any cost. If I pack it in who will do your warranty then?. Are you going to box it up and send it a couple of hundred miles back to where you bought it?. Imagine the down time!
  4. If I told you that some online sellers were making as little as £30.00 on a sale of this size would it surprise you?
  5. Just out of interest, if you were in my shoes how much profit do you think is acceptable on a MS 261CM 16" Chainsaw (random example) RRP is £575.00 + VAT. Try and post sensible answers, lets have a discussion, NOT a slanging match with insults.
  6. Fair enough. I only came on to try and clarify the position as it stands as there has been a lot of confusion. I have to say though I find most of you pretty rude, and on easter sunday too!!. However I will keep posting and as I have said before if you have any technical problems ask me and I will do my best to help. Happy holidays.
  7. I am reporting people who break the rules. What part of that is not justified?. As for naming my dealership I will never do that!!
  8. I Never mentioned either mate. There are genuine pros out there who undercut.
  9. Some interesting comments there. Lets try and equate this to your businesses. As professional tree surgeons How do you feel when you are undercut?. A guy comes along and does the job for 25% less than you quoted. Does that make him too cheap or does it make you too expensive?
  10. I see, sorry I misread your question. The answer is still no.
  11. Replace the breather valve (already mentioned). I do this about a dozen times a week!!. 4mix will never start with a wet filter. I hated them when they first came out but I like them now!. Get the valve setting done at every service, change the impulse hose and breather on a regular basis and relax!
  12. A Chainsaw CANNOT be sold without a bar and chain. This makes the product incomplete and does not comply with the description. A bit like buying a car without wheels. Totally useless.
  13. Maybe I can clear things up here. The new policy yet to be announced by Stihl will state that ANY machine with an exposed blade will NOT be allowed for sale on the net. So this is chainsaws, hedge cutters ect , even strimmers that are CAPABLE of taking a blade!! Until this is published dealers are supposed to adhere to the previous policy. I have been notified of a few dealers flouting this, so I have been phoning that dealer posing as a customer, if I find out they are willing to despatch i have reported those dealers to Stihl. If they persist then they will have their dealership taken away from them. Lets leave the online products to B&Q shall we? Stihl dealer in Scotland is online now Report Post

  15. Well, I hope I have cleared a few things up tonight. I accept that as a dealer what I had to say is not everybody's cup of tea. I can only reiterate that Stihl has YOUR interests at heart whether you are a domestic or professional user. If you are not happy with the service call them. 01276 20202. I will not post anymore on this subject due to the time it takes to reply to everybody. I will however be delighted to look in to the problems and troubleshooting bit of the forum and help as much as I can. Cheers.
  16. No, i'm saying it because I believe it to be true, please don't turn against me. Also, the person who was unhappy with his dealer, report them to Stihl, thay are very interested to help you if you are unhappy.
  17. For the record, when you (used to) buy a machine online, and it was shipped 100,200,300 miles to you, when there was a warranty problem did you ship it back?. Or did you go to your local servicing dealer?
  18. Repairs should always be carried out by a servicing dealer. It's in your handbook.
  19. Your local dealer has access to a next day delivery service (in most Cases) how can it be quicker from an online dealer?
  20. As most of you will know Stihl has a new policy regarding the sale of machinery online. As dealers here in Scotland for many, many years we pride ourselves on our knowledge of the product range and welcome this move believing it is a brave one especially since it seems to have gotten a few backs up. Stihl is a family run company and founder Andreas Stihl himself wanted his machines sold by a dealer network making sure the customer gets the personal touch ensuring the right machine is sold to suit their individual needs. An example to this, only yesterday we had an elderly gentleman looking for a FS40 Trimmer, on finding this difficult to start we advised that he should try the FS 50 with "Ergostart" this would never have happened online. He received a personally tailored recommendation which is only guaranteed with a face to face sales encounter. Had he purchased what he thought would suit him, the FS40 Trimmer, he would have had a negative impression of the power tool and therefore the brand. I hope this helps to clear things up.
