CPC Info Needed

Straight answers only please....

If you drive a crewcab or 3500kg beaver tail and it is fitted with a plastic card tacho - do you need to be a CPC holder?

I know about keeping manual records as well as using the tacho but I get different reports on the CPC bit!

Some say I need it and some say I don't!

Others say "read this pile of BS from VOSA!" but that wouldn't get an award for simple and easy to understand!

AAARGH.....

Still not clear! Pete says only if over 3500, others say category of use, then category of licence held applies!

I'm a rep. A machinery rep. I drive a crewcab towing a chipper. Sometimes I drive a 3500kg beaver tail which will carry one and drag one. Sometimes I use it for private use otherwise it is a tow tug! Do I need a CPC?

I'm over 50 and have had a licence for 30 odd years but am ashamed to say, I don't know the law!

Just going through my DCPC now to keep my C+E (old class 1), you do not need to take the DCPC unless you use your C1 licence (3500kg - 7500kg) for business use so long as driving is the main operation of your employment.

driving to and from site carrying tools for your own use where driving is not your main job does not require you to take your driver's CPC.

Hope that helps:thumbup:

Nice how the attachment says DVSA 'think', but it can only be decided in court. This means you will have to argue with DVSA in court if your brave enough, most of these are landmark cases & no one knows until someone has been to court.

For sure after Sept 10th you will get pulled by DVSA as they are now self funding & there are Sixteen pages of penalties of which you have to pay at the roadside by chip & pin or run the risk of your vehicle being impounded.

If you are 3.5tonnes or more, travelling more than 50km & its for hire or reward I would sit the CPC, DVsa will know where your vehicles are registered.
