I think tagging is beneficial if provided by a good artist in the correct place but tagging on trees is a complete disrespect to nature itself.

As a former fine arts student I'm amazed at how you have gone about removing the tag from the tree. Very skilled work indeed!

Where and how is it beneficial then?

Does the spray paint cause damage to the tree? Because if there's more risk of damage trying to removed it, would a better solution be to spray paint over it the graffiti with a spray can that matches the bark.

I don't imagine that any tree would really suffer with the amount of solvent over a relatively small surface area.

I think if due care is taken in the removal process then no significant damage should occur to the outer bark, cork cambium or phloem.

I've seen attempts to camoflage graffiti with a blanket spray where it looks kinda worse than the original graffiti.

Probably difficult to find an exact match in colour.

I love the irony of the 3 wooden benches around the tree on a thread about caring for them!:001_rolleyes:

I've seen a lot of trees painted beside roads up here with bright warning colours, they are usually bits of cars lying round the base of them
