Could be worth looking on ebay for an old broken boiler /furnace and just increasing the air flow. I see people make things out of oil tanks etc and within a few weeks they distort so much they are unuseable.

Just a design thought I've had. If the bottom of the burner is bottomless and has a mesh floor and you are chucking in lightish stuff, hedgetrimmings etc. Is it worth putting angle iron bracers every ft or so across the width of the skip to air the material and stop it suffocating the fire at the bottom. Will also strengthen the skip when heated and loaded.

 

If it doesn't make sense ask me to explain what you don't understand.
