Laser cut parts

Just been looking about on the web for stainless sheet for a stove design I'm making and it really seems not as expensive as I'd thought to get sheet steel parts laser cut .. has anybody here used these online services and has it worked well? Did you get what you expected?

Most of the stoves I've made before are slap it together gas bottle affairs which look amazing but it's got me thinking I could just spend a couple hundred quid on getting a load of plate steel cut to shape and all I have to do is bolt and weld it together..

:evil grin:

Going to do up a proper cad design and see what they charge.

Spent today cutting out al the bits of metal for this design:

Institutional Stoves

But been doing all sorts recently. Going to try making a bread oven next :thumbup1:

Shall get photos of my work if its interesting..

Had some parts cut for a wind generator I was constructing by a small firm in Marlow, Bucks. a few years ago. They gave me a complete tour of the process and the ins and outs of how the machine works, nice company.

The cut parts had a superb finish, better than a saw cut, and light years ahead of a plasma cutter. Not expensive either considering it was an extremely low volume one off job.

If you are welding the edges together then water jet or lazer are way overkill. Why pay extra when its not needed. I would look at them both for say the top if it sticks out, legs if it has any & the door bits.

If anyone's interested, the finished product!

Just a prototype really but going to be starting to make them for sale pretty soon,

'rocket stove' range cooker, gets very hot and much more efficient use of wood than a rayburn etc for the same size hotplate.
