I was trying to find something similar last year. I settled for a d4d Hilux, really watching the right foot and using dipethene im getting 500+ miles to the tank. Im looking into adding a hydrogen system to get more. I was going to get a jimny but Id never hear the end of it with my friends... Im 6 foot 3

yer coddin' me shurely ??

thas amazing economy, what size fuel tank is in yer Hilux? is she a single cab? my 14 year old Isuzu 3.1 dubble cab pickup does 270 miles afore the amber warning lamp comes on advising me that the derv tank needs filling up again and she only has a 63 liter tank.

2002 mk 5 2.5 d4d hilux unsure of liters, from near empty costs about E120 to fill, standard size wheels and tyres. 50 - 55 mph country driving rarely town driving, tailgate closed i get 430 miles to the tank and with the dipethene additive it gets just over 500 miles to the tank. thats with concious easy driving, no towing no off roading.

I will be trying a hydrogen kit in the next few months, ill report back then. and i want to study bed vortex drag in the mean time

Ive had 4 mk 3s 3 mk4s and this is my first mk 5. easily 1/3 more economical than any others, all single cabs. Ive had some that were absoloute pigs on diesel

dipetane is the way forward

No doubt that the newer stuff is a lot more fuel efficient and that with a careful right foot you can achieve some good mpg figures. A friend of mine is getting over 30mpg out of his new ranger. Anyway back to the thread, a freelander van is a contender in this.We run a couple of them and steady driver will get them past the 50mpg.

I got a 3.0 isuzu trooper the a couple of weeks ago, swb comercial, will do 32-4 to the gallon ( but not with me driving!), enormous back, double back doors mean it can be loaded with a fork lift and it will tow 3.3 ton:thumbup1:

And they go for buttons these days, i paid £720 for mine with just 99k on the clock, its now on 101k after just 2 weeks:ohmy:

jaysus thas gr8 stuff, Dipetane Ireland is located bout 3 miles from me mammy and daddies house in Wickla !

I was gonna suggest a LWB trooper commercial, but if ya cud get the older 3.1 in good nick it'd be a safer buy then the later 3.0 version.
