Looks like a useful piece of kit to get started with:

 

mobile sawmill | eBay

 

Would be very good for producing beams, where the higher level of wastage isn't so much of an issue. The cut quality from a chainsawmill on rails is at least as good as a band saw mill too.

 

£1800 is a bit high for a starting bid, but it's probably worth that.

 

If anyone does get it, I'm happy to collect it for diesel money - I'm curious to see it!

I like it. Ideal for milling pine etc, would make a great tool to produce planking for raised beds. Big J is right though, perhaps a tad expensive. I haven't the room for a tool like that but it's pretty good non the less :)

If you had your big saw it might be worthwhile buying the plans and making one yourself. Could even scale it up a bit I suppose. A remote throttle on it would be quite good as well.
