Which CSCS card for Motorway/Climber work?

I've been asked to get a CSCS card... as a climber, working on coned of sections of motorway...

So I phoned CITB and they asked which card I needed... I didn't know. Apparently there are several including "Operative", "Work at Height", "Highways".

Surely all are relevant?

The contractor now tells me I just need the green "Operative" card. As a climber (at height), on motorways (Highways)... Am I covered with just "Operative"?

Thanks

I would have thought you needed the WHITE 'Construction Related Occupation' but in order to access this you will need to go vai the BALI / ROLO route (see another thread.)

The actual task you are undertaking will be covered by your industry specific training, e.g. NPTC CS38 / CS39 / CS40 / CS41, the CSCS card is a construction related H&S test which acts as a 'passport' onto the site.

Hope this helps...a little.

Cheers..

Paul

Its a box ticking exercise, Listen to the contractor and get the operative card. I have had one for years and never been asked for anything else.

The BALI thing is expensive and clearly not needed

I think this 'loop-hole' is soon to be closed as, in the first instance, you will need a level 1 or 2 construction based qualification.

Hence get in there, and/or renew, quickly.

Its not a loop hole though is it?, its just the previous, and current state of things, until site managers start asking for something else its the way it will stay.

It is the easier option, I enquired with BALI (doesn't hurt to get ahead of the game) and they were appalling.

They just said the person that deals with that wont be in for the next few days and left the matter dead ended there. No offer of a call back or anything else helpful.

I went to my local test centre sat the test that day and got an operative card 2 days later. BALI need to bring their game up to that standard.
