Do we know any more about new cracked ZigZag in Australia?

Seen that one has been sent back too Petzl from Australia because a crack was found in one of the links. Has any one heard news yet or how it happened?

Nope nothing at all, still waiting! I know Petzl were taking a very close look at it.

Don't like too speculate but the phot and crack looked a little suspect too me. It's left a lot of people wondering and waiting. I'm sure it's the last thing Petzl wanted too hear right now.

How do you mean "suspect" Jake???

As in wrongly used or accidentally bashed with something? To me it looked like a simple fracture of the ali through stress, but I'm a long way short of an expert that knows what he's looking for in a failure like that.

Haven't seen a decent photo and I too am no expert, that's why Petzl have taken it and are testing it. I just there seemed more too it than "it was like this when I got it" and I'm not saying that it must have been wrongly used. Perhaps heat stress from a long, quick descent but too be perfectly honest I have no idea. I just think the quicker we know why or how the better. I guess things like this happen all the time but being a Petzl it's being highly publicised. However the guy who reported it isn't saying anything or answering questions either, but I assume he's been told by Petzl too keep his mouth closed until they investigate.

My assumption would be that Petzl would simply replace and look into the damaged one... and I assume that as the customer is happy with that, he doesn't feel the need to say anything?

The idea of telling, or asking someone to keep their mouths shut, would have me singing from the highest mountain (or tree in this particular situation) so I don't think that would be in Petzl's interest.

I'm not sure but I know if I were Petzl I would want him telling the whole world until I had answers myself. Especially since the failure of the last one. Will defiantly be interesting what comes back about the problem though. Either way it's not building a better picture for Petzl. So many were put off when the first ZigZag was recalled. You'd think after the last one they would of crossed their t's and dotted their i's so hopefully no recall for this.

i'm sure if Petzl had real reason for concern they would have recalled it by now....the last thing they would want would be someone having a serious accident, specially after a potential fault had been reported.

That's just the kind of knows nowt speculation that should be avoided.

 

The kind of heat needed to cause a material change in any friction device would melt the rope long before the device became a problem
