Hi folks

Ive just been asked to sort a tree with a serious lean over a fairly busy road, I think it needs a closure to be safe, anyone know the procedure to be followed or who I need to contact as I am fairly new to this game.

Kev.

ifs its a busy road im inclined towards subbing the TM out to a professional company.....too much liability involved these days!

if its something you think you can manage yourself you will(or should if you want to be legal) have a full chapter 8 road sign kit which you'll be looking in the region of £500 for, then the extra staff to man the road.

oh you said it may need a closure, in which case you'd need to divert traffic aswell. one big headache!!!

you do have to contact the emergency services for sure if theres going to be any possible holdups

If it requires a full closure then you have to apply for that,(DoT I think) and its costs!! Even a partial closure on any route, then emergency services should be made aware!! If there is other roadworks of any kind on the same stretch of road, then you have to acquire their permission and coordinate thru them, as they control that road. It is a nightmare to get sorted, best left to the TM boys, and expensive. If its just one tree, you may be able to sign to ch8, have stop/go boards, and wait for the traffic to ease then bang it out. You will need plenty of hands on board for this tho, and not really the best way from a legal point of view.

The ticket for putting out signs on the highway is Chapter8 (signing, lighting and guarding) and one of the gang must have a supervisor ticket. It is a legal requirement to ensure the correct spacings of cones signs and barriers on the highway for the relevant road speed. Dual Carriageways and Motorways are different to A,B and C class roads.
