Oak, Birch (this i like), sycamore and a bit of willow and alder...

 

took me 3 hours to do these 10... i seem to be stuck on shrooms at the moment though, want to try owls and acorns but have not got any decent sized would yet..

 

Whats the best way to get a smooth finish when carving? at the moment all mine are chainsaw finished with the edge of a moving chain (it looks like tiny mini ridges all over them)..

 

plus 'ow much do you reckon i could charge for these at a car booty or the like?

I sell most of my wood to 'carver si' instead of turning it into firewood! He reckons that for mushrooms then pretty much any softwood is best, and LOVES larch. Sequioa makes excellent bears- the colour is good. Ash he wont touch. For the sculptures of animals Macrocarpa, sycamore if it hasnt split, Yew, oak, walnut, beech..........:001_smile:

 

and there was me thinking I was your favourite....:lol:
