Trying to get an old 60's Stihl 08S working

Good Day,

I am not too sure that the problem is not ignition related.

Have seen this many times on saws, new and old. Unit will idle only, maybe sometimes get it to accelerate, but usually will only idle.

Whether points or electronic, sometimes when they go bad, you can have a good spark. But it is not sparking at the right time or fails when spark plug is in cylinder under compression.

Hope this helps, Larry. HOS.

Good point Larry, I have seen this and is frustrating/confusing.

Handy if you have a spare coil to try.

The ignition timing is adjustable on points and the early electronic models
