I would go with Steve's first suggestion of Iroko. Does the dust feel oily to the touch? Also Iroko dust is a nasty irritant almost like pepper to breath.

 

 

I use my underarmour head thingy atm to cover my mouth and nose then use the hoover attached to the bench sander lol so not much dust flying around bud

 

Also the dust feels light airy and quite spongy. !!!

iroko would clog up the paper and feel oily so i think one of the meranti group is a best guess at the moment.

 

end of the day dan if it's hard enough and you have a use for it, use it...

 

if it's hard enough for flooring it will be useful for other purposes.
