It was the diversify bit that intrigued me?

Sorry mate lol, equipment and consultancy sales, wood chip, fire wood etc. I have in the past found buying in and re-selling large specimen trees profitable but a very small market.

Hi Lee Merry Xmas by the way I Hope the familys Ok

We already do some although on a limited level

I used to do a lot of it when I started up

from Fences to Patios & ponds then block paved driveways

So thats not to big an issue

I have got most of the kit & have now got a mini ex'

I really arent sure to what level I want to divert tho'

I'm curently looking at a 57hp carraro tractor with imp's Rotovator flail mower etc'

so may stick with private Or might thro' my hat in the ring & do more commercial stuff

There are problems with both as you well know lee

the Trick is sussing the potential volumes from both & building accordingly , Although I dont want to much As staffing is great when you 've got work & a nightmare when you havent

Have a good night tomorrow

+ all the best for you & yours for next year

rgds Iain

Every plan has dis/advantages, but I like skyhuck`s approach.

My plans for the last two years have worked a treat, so 2008 will be more of the same:

Specialised work load: Tree Pruning. Tree Felling. Thats it. No stump grinding, no logs, no planting and no hedge cutting.

Minimal staff numbers, but paid the best the business can afford.

Minimal amount of kit, but the best the business can afford.

Well I quit my full time job to go back to contracting myself out, i'm going to go as legal as I can with full insurance etc.

This year i'll also be looking to increase my knowledge on tree biology and fungi ident, then start an arb course 1 day a week, probably Tech Cert.

And look into the potential of consultancy work in my future.

Oh yes and plant more trees, this i've found can be very profitable.
