I've just had two conversations about my PL renewal quotes. One insurer says that if I use any sub contractors with their own PL I don't need to have employer's insurance as they are bona fide. While the other insurance company strongly stated that at any point when I tell that other PL insured and self employed person to do a particular task I need to have EL as I'm in charge and responsible.

Most of my work is contracting for other companies or doing own small jobs. The only time when I would potentially need EL is when I work on conservation projects, doing chainsaw work. What I heard from somebody is that the moment I tell sub contractor what time we meet, what time we stop for breaks and ask him to do this or that in relation to the job I need to be insured as employer.

What do you say guys?

Look in the Insurance Forum for recent debate and also recent thread in the Chat Forum about verifying climbers. The answer, if there is one, is there. I haven't the energy to say another word on the subject.

They used to do a £25 reward if you recommend someone who then takes out a policy. I had a cheque from them and didn't even know my mate had told them I'd recommended them! Bonus!!
