An elastic band to fix a throttle on a VW Polo

I did that on an old Escort I had. I used to keep 4 or 5 hanging on the indicator stalk as spares because I couldn't find a clip to replace the lost one. I was giving my mate a lift home from work and when I pressed the accelerator and nothing happened I jumped out and lifted the bonnet. He asked what was wrong and I said "the elastic band's gone, pass me a new one" and he swore at me. :001_rolleyes:

Blutac and a PAPERCLIP as an emergency distributor "dizzy".

The origional getting mangled because I had failed to properly re-secure the distributor cap clips.

Lasted for yonks (with a proper replacement in the ashtray) until I replaced it without due cause.

2 wire rope tow chains as "jump leads", with many hands to keep them clear of each other and vehicle bodywork.

Looked ridiculous but worked.

Seen loads. Makeshift bungee for chipper throttle. A piece of wire for a choke switch on a saw.

Used masking tape when my belt broke.

Electrical tape just about replaces any part you will ever need.

Used string for a throttle before when accelerator cable broke in car.

Frosties packet as a gasket for carb on an AX GT, outlasted the bodywork! You could just see Tony poking his head out of the side

Mole grips as a temporary clutch lever on an old Yam DT.

The occasional cordless drill/spanner/ratchet driver/rock/boot etc as a hammer...
