If just using a crab back it up with a half hitch

Cheers , i dont know what a crab is, recently finished an apprenticeship in arboriculture but they didnt teach us anything to do with rigging. Think il have a look at some of the books people have mentioned and clips on youtube

Yes short for carabiner, also you can use a sling with a crab on the end choked round the branch. If you carry a couple it can speed the job up

Thanks for the advice. On larger limbs would this still work?

Yes and no in my opinion, make sure your slings are rated to what your cutting. I always use half hitch to a timber hitch on big stuff, but that's how I as taught it was 14 years ago though

Yea ok cheers, going to do some research on it aswel as taking the advice given on here and will see how it goes.

Yes it can but you have to increase the strength/size of slings to match the weight of timber. For bigger stuff is sometimes easier to just tie a running bowline if you are not sure.
