Quite the opposite, there is no rule to say that you need to be part of the UK to have the pound sterling. The disunited kingdom could choose to share it with Scotland if it suited both parties. I'm not saying whther it would or not, I'm just saying it would bne allowed to.

Some coutries that are in Europe aren't in the european currency union, some are. It's the same idea.

Why would Scotland want to be part of the UK currency system if they weren't part of the UK? That smacks of getting divorced and still expecting your conjugal rights. The thing about the Euro is the members involved would be expected to leave if they decided to leave the EU. :001_smile:

We'll all be using bitcoins or there evolutionary offspring in a few years anyway. the currency issue won't be relevant.

It's just the westminster establishment trying to hold on to more power. They don't care about our futures.

It might be expedient to stay part of the £ for a while, and I expect it would suit England .. sorry ...the remainder of the UK to have it stay for a while too. Governments get by on borrowing, and it would not suit the new slimline UK or the new Scotland plc to have a downgraded credit rating. It doesn't really matter what the Barnet formula says, scottish oil is a tangible asset that I supect underpins UKs creditworthiness.

Anyway it smacks of getting divorced and wanting to stay in the marital home until a new one is bought using the proceeds of disposal from the sale of the home. Conjugal rights don't come into it, the nationalistic bit of me wants to make a witty quip about wishing England to be sexually self-sufficient after Scotland's divorce. But I won't, just remember though that after 300 years of marriage Scotland has got rights to a share of the assets. The more an anglocentric UK says that the £ belongs to england, the more the neutrals like me are to feel old resentments stirring.

With regards to the oil, who owns the infrastructure?(genuine question) As for England and Scotland's relationship, I seem to remember a part of Trainspotting that dealt with it very aptly.

I thought the major part of Scottish independence was the Scottish ppl saying they didn't want to have policy's that are made by Middle England mps who live in London, and aren't particularly concerned with Scottish

I can kinda understand that.

The pound is run from London, and is probably mainly staffed by ppl who live in London who aren't concerned with Scottish issues.

(I also live in the south and I am also not too concerned with Scottish issues so excuse my ignorance)

Actually, the English have no say in decisions made in the Scottish Parliament (no reason we should as they don't concern us) but Scottish MPs get to vote on English issues with no weight in Scotland. :001_smile:
