Looting grrrrrr

All this talk of shooting looters is great until some innocent checking on a friends house is blown away, or someone with a grudge against a neighbour asks them round and shoots them claiming there were looting.

I think we do need the government send out a powerful message re looting. But like everything else, they won't. Yes they'll go after the soft target, the mobile phone in the car user, now the smoker in the car. How much more time has to be wasted avoiding the real issues in this country?

Shooting looters may sound harsh, I'm not condoning the public taking the law into their own hands, but trained personnel with the weight of the the law behind them deterring these scum from taking advantage of a horrible situation. This has been a common practice in many countries including our own in very recent times, in times of war and national emergency, so why not? I'm sorry, but I see no real attempts by the legal system to stamp this out. The government of this country has made us all become victims, yet does nothing to protect us.

So there we were during the power cuts, passing the old peoples home, turns out their geny had run out of diesel. Couldn't buy any cos no pumps working at petrol station. "My mate said "I know, I've got some diesel down the yard. I'll go and get some to help out so they can at least boil a kettle for a cup of tea."

Some bastard shot him!

I think a deployment of Marines with orders to shoot looters is perfectly in order. There is no need, no excuse for this callous act.

I wondered how long it would be before the inevitable looting or burgling started. Down in Somerset Marines are helping the public with defences, why not stick a few patrols out protecting people's property? If they have enough bod's.

Taking the law into your own hands is not what I'm saying. A fully legal warning of the risk of death carried out by professionals is one hell of a deterrent. Remember the Falklands war? Rumours that ears would be removed and saved as trophies scared the proverbial out of the Argies, to the point many surrendered without a fight. Criminals who capitalise on this kind of national disaster deserve no better. There are no excuses for this action, never have been. A message needs to be sent out to them that such behaviour will not be tolerated, not a slap on the wrist and a few hours community service. A curfew should be in place too, proper management of the situation.

I'm sorry, I know I'm the newby here and only signed up to help with a bit of foliage identification but this^ really is the most utter bollox on the interweb this morning.

 

You are suggesting that we do away with trial by jury for capital crimes.

Do I understand you correctly?

 

If it is ony for 'certain' crimes, which others will be included and who do you trust to decide which others will be included.

 

And who do you trust to make the call between someone working late and someone looting ...in the rain ...in the twilight.

Could'nt do that, the criminals have more rights in this country than the law abiding citizens thanks to the EU and the human rights brigade

 

Got a feeling it would be very different over here, even the Gendarmes carry four mags for their pistols.

 

As for intruders, you have every right to protect & defend your property, what happens to them is their problem.
