What's an ms 390 like?

i have found it fairly reliable with TLC. i have got it on a 20" which is what it came with but would recommend it on a smaller bar as it is underpowered without mods for a bigger bar

Ive had one from new, it was an insurance pay out to a mate who had all his gear nicked so I bought it off him still boxed. Had it for about seven years now and use it on my 3 acre plot. I had a later type carb fitted so no adjustment but it starts up fine runs all day and ticks over till it runs out of fuel. Its getting heavier as I get older but great for logging, and reliable.

From maintanance side, they are not the easiest saw to work on if anything major needs doing. They are a bit heavy and not the fastast saw but are OKish!

I have one that must be 10 years old bought it 5 years ago and cut 200 tonnes a year. Was a bit gutless until the first exhaust vibrated off then it flew. I replaced the exhaust about 2 years ago and that one has broken up as well but it flies now so its going to stay like that till it dies. Anyone else find the exhaust crack and break up or am I just not doing them up tight enough.

Mine did an exhaust now I think about it, but that was the only problem I had.

Thanks for all your input chaps iv posted a new post now but in a nutshell I'm going to buy a saw in the pro range but still need help!!

Now you mention it mines started rattleing from the front end, will have to look at the exhaust in the morning:lol:

thanks for that what size holes are they? and where exactly do you drill them i dont have much of a clue when it comes to this. i can do basic maintenance but not much more than that

You and me both!

They are probably 5mm holes, as that's the size drill bit I usually have lying around from putting in rivets!

Just undo the 3 nuts on the front and slide off the plate that directs the exhaust gasses and drill the holes in the pressed in bit.
