how does folks, just after picking a few brains. has anyone ever had to do a 'pre work inspection'???? how would you record it?

it may be waste of time but i think more companies are going to be asking their contractors to do more things like this(its all backside covering)

any feed back????

this may also apply to normal saw works/ bird nesting/ site clearance etc

sorry was in a rush when posted(and trying to do million other things)

recently had a small piece of metal fly up and cut my finger (not serious) the firm i was doing the job for asked to see my 'pre work survey'. i.e wanted to pass any blame off as being my fault for not checking the ground properly and recording any hazards. like i said this time it wasnt serious but i have also recently heard of similar thing happening in west country somewhere but from what i've been told, the guy lost a few teeth, fractured cheek bone and some serious cuts.

i was wondering if anyone else has had anything similar happen?

has anyone else being asked about 'pre work survey/insection' of the site?

if so what/ how do you guys do it?

it may help some or it may be a waste of time, but i do think more companies are going to be asking for things like this

pre work inspection when strimming or using brushcutter????:confused1:

i usually have a good walk around, having a look where to cut and places to avoid, also picking out the discarded crap thats been left lying around ie pram wheels and parts of exhausts etc etc..

always best to use steel toe caped boots/leg protction/gloves and full face helmet with visor...

as you always miss something thats lurking in that long grass...

always best to be safe than sorry..

dont think any insurance would pay out if the correct ppe wasnt worn....

I Might be wrong here but recently had a health and safety audit which I got flying colours for, unlike one of a company last year.

It's part of my Method statement that staff have to check the area to be strimmed beforehand, work out there safety zones, and be aware of what to do if they are breached from property or persons. They also have to carry out checks on the equipment. They then sign to say that they are fit for work, are capable, trained for and understand the task, the risk assessment and the method statement.

I'll leave you to decide how this works in 'real life' but that paperwork got me the tick for the HSE bod......
