a problem with pigeons

Got a customer with a large commercial building, 500 employees walking each day along a footpath with trees over the top, problem is pigeon poop, which has caused injuries. a lot of it, i dont need to hear about felling trees because it wont happen and also trees in the urban environment. Target prune will reduce the opportunity for birds to sit over the path, which immediately removes the poop over path problem. i have also suggested along with the target prune that they could also get someone to bring a bird of prey in and target said problem. Someone else has suggested to me that sticking a plastic peregrine falcon in the tree will do the same trick as getting a real one in. Has anyone had a similar problem or how did they deal with it.

Had very similar issues also Russell.

Will target pruning not unbalance said trees?

Tried a bird of prey via a mate, biggest problem was after it caught the first pigeon, you never saw another for half an hour or so.

Dummy birds work initially, but when the newness wears off the pigeons actually roost very close to the scarers:sleep1:

Even had flags, bits of tape and old CD's hung in trees but they still get used to them.

We found easiest and most efficient way to cure the problem was 4 or 5 men with 12 bores:scared1: Sorted in about 2 hours! For some reason the birds will return to the trees, even if they are being shot at, not like when a bird of prey scares them!

Urban area or not, it should be allowed if there is so much poop its causing a hazard to health!:001_tongue:

Encountered a similar problem, we installed the little rows of plastic spikes along the laterals to reduce landing points, they are available from places like jewsons for walls etc but can be tied to limbs.

We also have a couple of local lads who shoot with air rifles if it is away from the public, you can find loads of these in the back of air rifle magazines looking for places to shoot.
