could anyone confirm this? a new minimum standard of helmet is to be introduced so all must have side protection - (like the petzl vent's)

a friend was told this when wanting to buy a helmet the other day. the person behind the counter told him he should buy that helmet (which happens to be the most expensive one...) as this new standard will be introduced soon.

yes its in already but not law only best practise to use y formation chinstrap

it,s not about the chin strap as you can still get helmets with y chinstaps that do not meet the new criteria

its about how the helmets are tested the new EN 12492 also has a side impact test as well as the top test the other type

sorry for using the word 'law' - i am completely in the dark about it so wasn't sure what terms to use. so it is just advised that you wear one or you have to? just to clear up and shut down the thread....

cheers

Ok, no worries.

Law is when the police turn up and arrest you for doing something "against the law"

Police won't mind if you wear a thong at work although indecent exposure may be against the law!

To clear up - you have to not hurt yourself at work! And the guidelines for not doing that are to wear the petzl type helmets along with the billion other guidelines.
