Jon, sounds like the mill is going well, and I agree, maintenance is everything, it sounds like tension or lack of it in the blades, if not that, when did he last change stainless rollers?

Proper width 4 inch bands and can cut a massive 4'4" diametre...... it's a beast. Weighs over 2500kg so would need old or trailer license to tow. Is it worth the money compared to smaller cheaper mills?

I think they had 6 in total..... managed to crash 2 on motorway when collecting from factory in Tiverton(as was) due to weight distribution that they insisted on for transportation below helicopter....... note all the lashing points in photos on ebay.... they also were painted in heat shielding paint!

its a good price when compared to new, there is 2k in blades, but as ever would you buy something that has been used by the forces....note the bent top beam of the loading arms, that was not done by a log! and without seeing it in person you might wonder what else is not straight?

Second hand mills are a bit of nightmare unless you have a comprehensive service history, you know the owner very well, or alternatively the mill is very simple and any defects would be apparent. In my mind, that doesn't look like a mill that has done 106 hours. My Logmaster is about up to that now, and it looks pretty much as new. It only takes one momentary lapse of concentration or lack of judgement to do serious damage to a mill.

 

Interestingly, I had serious problems with bands not cutting flat straight out of the box (Dakin Flathers). I reckoned that it was the set which was off, which was confirmed on testing. It wasn't that the set was uneven, but that there was too little set (15 thou). It therefor look very little to cause a wobble. Anyway, I was quite impressed when Andrew from Dakin Flathers came up to my yard (from Leeds) with three bands with different sets and spent a few hours testing them. The best band had the highest set (23 thou) and really ripped along. Additionally, he'd been out to the Logmaster factory last year, and said of all the mobile mills in that price range, he thought that it was the best. Just a damned shame they closed down.

Buying a second hand mill like a loglogic is a gamble ,, took me a longtime to realise it the blade speed wasnt fast enough as it was cutting ,, i think the problem was person before had put a lower lpm pump on power pack ,, not much help from main dealer at first but have been more helpfull since,, alsothe hydraulic pump and motor importer in this country are very very bad,, i needed a seal for a £800 hydraulic motor and they told me to get one local as there only 30 quid and not worth there time,,

The hrs on the clock are a bit meaningless to age ( I know of an autotrek near me, that is only a few months older than mine, but has only done about 1000hrs from new, because it is not used as a commercial venture), from memory, the Army took delivery almost a decade ago, after exhaustive testing they plumped for the Autotrek because of its ability to accurately cut Greenheart, deemed to be the most troublesome species likely to be encountered, albeit with non standard low hook angle, lower pitch, stellite tipped blades.

I have asked the gentleman who's selling the mill , and how old it is. he told me it's a '99 model purchased by the forces in 2000.
