Tell you something and of which is my opinion. My 201t is excellent well over a year old now vibes are way better than the 200t. Its just a different delivery of power etc and needs getting used to. Ive no complaints and will buy another one when necessary. I also bought a new 200t back in 2010 only used it for a year or so....then went back to using older saws for certain jobs. Now i use my 201t all the time.

Sounds ok but if you add up post to and from spud then say 150 for spud? There wont be much change out of 200.00 would there

In a way yes...

Consider the dilemma I was in.

I had a 1 year old 200t I was using. I had a 4 year old saw that had had it problems, had a new carb fitted, after fitting by a Stihl dealer, on the second start something went into the pot and seized the engine. the carb and piston and pot were exchanged under warranty. I also had a 7 year old saw that had been raped for bits and in a box.

The 1 year saw I was using accidentally got smashed into smithereens by Mark Bolams groundie. He didnt let a large piece of Beech run and it impacted the saw, pretty much smashing it to pieces.

My dilemma was to shell out 500+ for a 201t, which IMO opinion was completely useless.

or

Have Justin repair my 1 year old saw for 230 quid. I sent the other two to Spud and he did his bit charged me 270 quid for the privilege.:thumbup:

So all in all I spent 500 quid and got 3 stinking 200t's out of it, instead of buying a 201t and having 3 knackered carcasses that were no good to me.

I thought at the time it was the right choice and I still stand behind my decision. Hopefully I won't need another top handle for quite some time.

The 200t I use the most is knocking on 10 years old. About 3 years ago it was in bits and I sent it to Spud to fix up and to port it as a project. If it died then so be it... it wouldn't be the end of the world. I do believe it was one of the first top handled saws Steve did.

It is one of the hardest worked saws I have had and brings a smile to most people faces when they use it.

So in answer to your question. Yes it is worth messing with or fixing an old 200t.

Thanks Rich:thumbup:

to give a valid opinion you need to have owned all 3 saws ie the 200t 201t and the t540xp for at least 6 months before you post on here dont you think . so imo the t540xp maybe not as strong in build quality as the 200t but good power and why buy a second hand thrashed unknown saw which is a gamble in anyones book .

Well.....just very kindly been offered a 5 yr old 200t by a mates uncle for £100. says it started and ran well last time he used it (3yrs ago). Was never used in a tree he bought it cos he thought it was a nice little saw to cut his logs in the garden. Well worth the punt i reckon and if it looks like turning into a money pit ill get most of the 100 bills back by flogging it for spares......then get a t540.
