Old Nissan D21 pick up

Does anyone have any experience if this older model Nissan pick up. I'm thinking of buying a 98 model and would just like some advice from people who have had one or still use one. If be grateful for any info which could sway my decision whether to by one or not.

I had a petrol kingcab in the 90s and did well over a hundred thousand in it . Had to change a gearbox but thats about it.Ran all over Europe with it ,cost a bloody fortune to run though .

We have a diesel one that the boys could not kill, the back started looking really tatty so we took it off and its now been converted into a bowser. Supertough truck with a good engine, rust would be the only thing to watch out for.

If it's a normally aspirated diesel one, then they are very, very sluggish - like worse than the old n/a hiluxes (and they were gutless!).

 

Otherwise, they seemed to just keep chugging.

The one I'm looking at is a 2.7 TD with intercooler. There's defo some rust but it's just passed its mot so maybe only cosmetic fix? I'm assuming running costs would be much higher than a more modern pick up ie. Tax and fuel but it could be worth a punt at les than 2 grand?

I think the tax could be cheaper being a pre 51 plate

I've had four of them starting with a brand new one in '87 up to a late 90s version. Only thing that ever went wrong was a head gasket on one of them. Took one to Italy and back. The return journey took me twelve hours from Italian border to Dover...never missed a beat:thumbup1:

Had a j reg and a w reg, brilliant trucks had way more problems with a m reg hilux I had! But watch out for rust, thats what killed both of mine!
