You after the short or long handle version?

I got the 80cm Helko, cheapest long handle I could find (£40+vat)

Helko Log Pick 38cm/80cm/120cm | F R Jones and Son

Had it 2 years, still sharp and head is still firm (no loosening there yet).

Some large models have a serrated edge on the back of the tooth, Not entirely sure of this function? Anybody?

I`ve got the same one long hand one and its still good for me aswell.

the Oregon ones are good if you need to carry it with you all day as they are nice and light.

He ve a look at the sappies on Clark Forest web site, (click on ad on side of forum page) I prefer them to the Oregon for a couple of reasons.

1) they seem to pick into the wood far better.

2) they have a heavy flat side ideal for tapping wedges in.

3) with a belt loop they can be carried easily out of harms way, yet easy to extract when needed, the hook on the Oregon makes this a right faff, and the lack of flat side means separate tool to knock in a wedge.

I believe the serration is to help separate icy timber, never had to do that!!

+1 for Clark's

Had a small stihl which snapped dragging cord onto the processor, got it reshafted with a lambs foot nylon shaft. Got a synthetic short from Clark's for processor duty.

Looking for a medium length one with a good heavy head for felling/ short wood duty - ideal for wedges and dragging/stacking short wood.
