I've used a ported Echo 510950cc saw) with a 20" bar mostly so it was easier on my back for snedding. It would pull the bar buried in maple fine, though.

If you are good with saws, and can maintain and repair them, a used one isn't a bad idea.

Be prepared to have to fit a new sproket, clutch drum, clutch bearing, etc and may be chain and bar to an unseen eBay saw.

I've been lucky with 2 saws off eBay.

Was not so lucky with another that was discribed as needing a clutch bearing and needed £80 of parts to put right :cursing:

Got really done with a top handle that was far more nackered than expected - it would have been cheaper to buy a new MS181 or Husky 135 :crying:

Had to fix a mates 254xp off eBay that needed a new piston on top of the sprocket & cltch drum.

If you don't mind/enjoy working on saws you can end up with a pro saw for less than a basic, homeowner saw.
