597667dfc6edd_lucassequioa010.jpg.ea434388db7f01058c74dbc9f1142a52.jpghad John hughes in today with his lucas mill and tackled some sequioa butts that nick channer transported to me,:thumbup1:having bought them off treebloke:thumbup1:

My woodmizer has being running extremly slow for some reason and havnt had chance to get to the bottom of it,and dont hold out much hope of woodmizer helping(unless i`m throwing £35k at them),so decided I needed the timber milled so it would be of use for crafts next yr,

I asked john to mill it all at 8x1 and 6x1 , we managed 193 x 3 meter boards, there not all there in the pictures. lucky the rain didnt follow the pea soup fog we started, I was happy with the result. thanks john.

credit where its due,John did the majority, but yes the lucas is great for dimensional timber, very fast!:thumbup1:

+1 for that. We have an 8-30 and it is seriously quick for certain sawn material. They are great.

Going back to the Wellingtonia it would be useful to get a description of the timber properties especially of the heartwood. The historical accounts are that Wellingtonia is very brittle and no good for construction (cladding). More recent research suggests that "young" trees (70-80yrs) are not brittle, though it may be a question over the % of non/less durable sapwood.

Fancy experimenting with a board or two?

cheers

Ben
