Hi All,

just working my through my first Application for work to a tree subject to a TPO Online, I have had the work verbally agreed by local TO.

Basically all sorted, except im a bit stuck on the sketch plan.... is this a rough diagram/map showing location/species ?

does anyone have an example!?

Thanks all

Hello Quercus 90, you can buy a sketch plan which is to scale. There are links on the planning portal to several approved suppliers or you could do what I do & draw the plan on your computer as long as it is concise with house numbers, street names, exact location of the tree etc. I have never had an application declined with my on sketch plan. I would not draw one free hand, as long as the map can be printed on A4 then you should not have any probs. There are no free maps you can use as they are crown copyright.

Possibly OT, but I've noticed that while using the online .gov.uk portal thing. Some local authorities such as Lewes district council. Stipulate essential submission material as a tree report! Which can play havoc with a little birch in a conservation area as we don't charge to liase with LA.

To combat this I send a blank document with NO DOCUMENT AVAILABLE. as I feel its unreasonable to expect a report with every request.

I do however understand that its probably a step to prevent people from applying for all kinds of **** when "their Neighbors trees are too close\big"

With regard to your OP, I use Mac screen shot Google earth then use the built in "preview.App" to circle trees, identify residence, and any landmarks. I have however had this thrown back in my face as its technically copyrighted. I think it was Mid-sussex DC that didn't like it. Very much depends on on whonyour dealing with. Belt and braces is the best approach as it is a legal process.

if your LA have a Google image licence take a screen shot of the map (snip it tool) open it in the Paint programme and circle the tree and annotate as required.

Some LA's will not accept google maps due to licencing issues as its public record and published on line!

if that's the case a simple sketch i do mine in Paint of the site and location of tree is ok.

I add a north arrow and prominent features to allow easy location of tree (that's what the map is for) by members of the public who may have an objection or opinion on the proposed works.

hope this helps
