DIY sharpening chipper blades?!

Hi

So my chipper was getting a bit blunt today, popped into my engineer who normally does the blades (he takes ages) he hadn't had chance to do then, got a big job to do tomoz so decided to have ago myself,

Normally I keep a rotation but it's caught me out this time,

And I don't want to be replacing the mains again,

I tried a grinder once before on a old blade and thought it was too savage so I decided to make a jig on our belt sander and try that, I think the results are ok I didn't bother with the Tiny stone chips

Both measure the same front and back within 1/2 mm

While I'm thinking bout chipper blades

Can anyone recommend a cheap reliable sharpening service as I don't want to get caught again?,

Or do I go all out and get a Tormek?

Thanks

Josh

Saturn knives.

Also best done with a wet grind stone. Keeping the blade cool as possible is the key, if you heat it up it looses it's hard edge. And will blunt very quickly. Taking the same off each side is good.

Ok thanks,

It was turned down to keep the heat to a minimum the finish is very good

The blades didn't get hot at all

Josh, Western saw and tool sharpening I use and really recommend. Have just moved to feniton, telephone 01404 851380. They charge just over a tenner for a pair of timberwolf 150 blades. They have a collection and delivery round, pick up one week and drop off sharp the following, but prices are higher.

Cab you pm me prices thanks

I used to use a large knife company but now we have an old dude called Bill who turns up with his wife in an old Ford courier.

This for me is excellent as I love random bill and his random car and random wife.😅

Joking aside he travels and is efficient and almost a third cheaper than the big guns.
