Uniforest 85 Problems

Yea I think what Jon says could be part of the problem, I'll try pulling out some more cable and see if that helps, cpuld maybe put a snatch block on which might help.

I'm running it on a 125hp machine so should be enough I hope.

What speed do you run the PTO at? Just tick over or up to 540?

125 is enough.

PTO runs at tick over. Normally on manual winches upping the PTO speed just increases line speed which decreases pulling power.

I've put a block on the log i want to pull run the cable top of winch to block through lower pully then back to the log. lots of winching power.

Actually incorrect, as no "gearing" is involved, as tractor engine rpm's increase, so does Torque and HP, until the lines on the Torque/HP graph cross, torque falling away relative to HP at higher engine rpm's .

But easier to strangle a tractor at low engine rpm's than higher ones.

cheers

Bear in mind that due to the gearing effect of the cable on the drum the winch is more powerful when the cable is further out, so as you winch in the line speed will increase but the power decreases.

I believe some manufacturers indicate a winch pulling power with the cable all the way out, whereas some rate them as an average pulling power. Same with line speed.

HI JIM your right mate:thumbup: or put less rope on your winch ok for short pulls or cut the wood smaller thanks jon

How did you find the Krpan? Currently loving mine.

Wasn't my winch but it was alright. Pulling green and red cords to operate is tedious and hard work I found. I reckon a hydro would have been much better. Mate of mine was going to buy a 85 manual Uniforest but I persuaded him to go hydro for a few extra quid; worth every penny but unless you've fought with cords I guess you might not appreciate the difference. Most of my experience is with a BGU 9.5t Profi with powered unwinder and full remote; having used that I'm getting a Uniforest 5.5HPro for my little tractor; yes it costs more but atleast a job that no-one really wants becomes easier and more productive; powered unwinder makes drum snags a lot less common.

Hmmm,

yes the power unwinder would be the icing on the cake.

Along with the wireless remote.

I did however bite the bullet re the electro hydraulic option, which I have not regretted.

Makes "drag, drop an drive" a much more workable proposition too.

Just need a stopper on the cable before it peels:blushing: off the winch drum (again)
